But then why would he say "Some people might be coming up with that soon" ?

The BG quote was "I don't carry an ipod. I think carrying music on my mobile phone is much better. Some people might be doing that in the future." (chuckles)"

"Carrying music on my mobile" would be the "future" thing (never mind that there are already phones that do this, and even phones and PDAs running Windows Mobile that do this...)

Yawn. This thread is still alive?

Yep. Or it's a bad dream. There isn't anything left that's worthwhile to say or that hasn't been said. I suggest that people quit responding to the needling posts of the two main provocateurs (you know who they are; one even claimed several posts back that he was "sick of this thread"-- not.)

"A taste of things to come" being said by Jobs at the same event as the release of a way to 'type' on an iPod with just the clickwheel

I don't think there would be a great need for a numpad if dialling, SMS, etc. can all be done from this wheel?

I currently believe that if one is on the way, it would look a lot more like the iPod video of today than we think.

    http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2006/09/dsc_0870.jpg

    EDIT: Picture.
I have to think this is VERY possible. Why is a num pad even needed in most cases? I know who I want to call. I have their number synced from my address book. I scroll down to their name and press call. No dialing needed.

I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more often. Applestores must be filled with cash. I would think one would be a bit easier to rob than a bank.

I would bet there is actually very little cash in the typical Apple store. I personally have never observed a single customer pay with cash for anything at the two stores in my area. Everybody pays with credit or debit cards.

These guys were after the products, probably iPhones and iPads, which would bring in some hefty cash on the black market.

Who has room for two external displays on a desk that already has a 27" iMac?! Dual outs on the MBP would make much more sense, although achieving it may be more of a technical challenge in terms of GPU power.

ETA: Of course, having an external display connected directly and using the other ThunderBolt port for non-display ThunderBolt devices makes much sense, especially seeing as ThunderBolt devices can't be daisy-chained after a display. So I'm not saying the two ports don't make sense.Haha Ill make room ;)

In simplest terms, Apple's objections to the use of "Apple Logo and Apple-owned Graphic Symbols" in the application led to multiple rejections of an update designed to fix a critical performance bug, leading to a delay of over three and a half months before the updated version was finally approved and made available to the public.

This is very disheartening since they were using information specifically supplied by Apple for the use of developers. It's time for a significant revamping of the approval process before we see any more problems like this!

my thoughts exactly... there aren't that much of a difference, right??

anyway, hey, are the search functions gonna be attainable for the last 5gen ipod as well ? with the software update??? i wish that's the case......please

i've been desperately looking for the reasons as to stick to the old 5gen which i bought just yesterday

There are no major differences but if i were you i'd go back and trade for the new one or just return the iPod and order a new one. Your window is soo close not to upgrade.

It doesnt look like the new software features will be added to current 5G iPods. My iPod software just updated and only game functions were added.

Can't wait to see what they come out with. Will the displays ramp up resolution and diminish in size? Will there be a scaled down iMac? (doubtful) Will some other advances accompany Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt?

I saw a two-year-old behave like that once... before getting his face smacked.

    Very intelligent response.

    Give it a shot pal.

So how would I go about encrypting this backup file on my Mac?

Plug in your iPhone, open iTunes, and in the SUMMARY window check the box related to backup encryption.

    Itunes Movie Store
New Airport xpress with video capabilities.
new Front Row with DVR capability (that would be really nice)
device to connect cable TV to the Mac (ala Elgato)
    Maybe new IPOD video widescreen.

I doubt they leave large amounts of cash in the stores over night.

If Apple kills the MacPro it is there own fault. I can member when they used to be affordable at $1499 and now they are completely out of my price range for a new computer. I have been using an 867 G4 for TEN YEARS and will finally upgrade to an iMac with more power then 3 867's put together.

    1 $1499
    Intel Core i7-2600S Processor
    (8M Cache, 2.80 GHz)
    8GB RAM
    2TB HD
    AMD Radeon HD 6850 Graphics

    Sounds great to me!:)

    what about enough built-in memory.

Because that huge base of thunderbolt based devices is overwhelming! :p

Gotta build the computers first for the devices to follow.

    I have a newbie question.
I plan on moving onto MAC OS (from Windows 7) but I wanted to wait for Lion, but I'm also quite impatient since the iMac is perfect for me.
Being new to Apple computers, would I be able to use Lion (like an upgrade) when it comes out?

Yes. Traditionally OS X upgrades cost $129, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was $99 or $79 this time around. Apple has been dropping their software prices lately.

I'm a Green Peace supporter, but with Bush in the Whitehouse, don't they have bigger fish to fry?

I agree. Apple is in the spotlight a great deal so they are using this as a method to market themselves.

Only way MS would get these numbers is if Windows Phone takes over the business cellular market.

Can the current imacs support a 24" Dell widescreen in dual monitor mode?

Why don't you just look it up on the apple and dell sites?

It will, the imac will drive up to 1920 x 1200, which is what the dell 24 is.

Still, my point is that Apple isn't trying to remain competitive in regards to grabbing sales or going outside of their niche market. Apple has diehard fans that will purchase whatever they sell, no matter what. They don't need to attempt to go outside of that faction because they'll have a hard time swaying general computer users who are used to Windows already or don't want to pay the premium price.

I don't know that I'd agree with that either. The macbook and pro are pretty competitive, and the imac and mini offer some fairly reasonable machines. I'd agree that a midtower would be a great addition to their line and appeal to more untapped potential buyers, but apple is appealing to PC switchers already, as evidenced by their increasing market share and the number of consumers buying a mac for the first time. They *are* trying to remain competitive, and are succeeding in some cases, they just aren't 100% competitive in every part of the computer market.

What I don't get is why can't Apple enable any iOS device (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad) as an Airplay target device? Obviously iOS supports it as Apple TV can be a target for Airplay from iTunes.

AirFrame (http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CBYQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fitunes.apple.com%2Fus%2Fapp%2Fairframe%2Fid416480052%3Fmt%3D8&rct=j&q=airframe%20itunes&ei=6bSiTYuHCZGwhAfMuaDxBA&usg=AFQjCNEFFllGAXPM2zbfQOCBM6D-_HZzHw&cad=rja) allows sending video between iOS devices. I've sucesfully used it from iPhone to iPad

Examples of uses (Dvorak in his references to "killer app"):

    2005: http://www.marketwatch.com/story/a-k...or-real-estate

    2003: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1191830,00.asp

What I understood is that the word "App" by itself is not the reason for the lawsuit, but the term "App Store" is; both words used together.

Not sure why people would get excited about an iCamera. There are many excellent DSLRs out now from companies that have a lot more expertise in building cameras than Apple. I'd rather have a Canon Rebel XT or maybe that new Pentax.
