Iphone are sold BOGO and even just free on contract over in other countries.

iPhone is sold as buy-one-get-one-free? In what country would that be?

From what we're read so far, especially the quote that went something like: "it's not like we're sitting around not doing anything." or however it went, and everybody read this:

It's not a question of if, it's a question of WHEN

I just find it rather funny that so many people are already giving it the name iPhone. I think that is the worst name ever, and a little too predictable. Even the false "iChat Mobile" was a far superior name.

I don't think anyone actually thinks it will be called the 'iPhone' - instead, we're just using that highly generic name until we find out what it really will be called...

So what apps will saturate all four cores or at least get close to it, on either a quad G5 or quad xeon? Are there any?

Are there any apps that really take advantage of four cores on their own?Toast 7.1 UB can use more than two cores. In my test at the Apple stopre last Saturday I saw Toast 7.1 UB use more than 3 - between 2.3 and 3.1 cores all the time on the Mac Pro. It also uses more than two on the Quad G5 - just barely. Handbrake is not yet optimized for Mac Pro and uses a little less than two on both. That use of two is negatively impacted as soon as you start doiong something else especially both Toast and Handbrake at once.

But in future it will use all four. The problem with that "test" you so highly value, is that the testers didn't have a Quad to compare to, so they didn't even search out applications that are already "Quad Core Ready" - that would make a nice bullet on a software package wouldn't it?

    Better yet: "MultiCore Ready".

If you don't think you are going to ever use more than one thing at a time, then you are right. But I think most of us here have 10-15 things open at once and do all sorts of things at once. That's the reason for "Spaces" in Loepard.

Make quality music and I'll buy it.

Perhaps my iPod doesn't even play Universal's music. Why should they get a chunk? Greedy bastards. Apple should just go ahead and open up the iTMS to artists and eliminate the middle man.

That's why the information is stored locally and can't be accessed by third parties. The information IS private. Unless a device of yours is stolen, in which case almost anything can be done or accessed.

Is it really? Is it open for people to look at how it is accessed? I don't think so. If that were the case, it would have been revealed earlier and more easily.

Apple needs to do the right thing and be transparent in this process.

How does Rosetta hold back forward progress exactly? It's just small extension for the OS. It's not like it's Classic.

It's crap that is no longer needed.

Stuff that can be cut out but isn't, holds back progress. Progress = cutting and more cutting and then perfecting what's left over.

Rosetta isn't necessary to run today's apps (or even apps released over the past 2-3 years.) So it needs to go.

I believe a lot of the anti-Obama crap spewed by the Tea Party and Republicans is based more on his race than his party.

Oh. So when a person criticizes Obama for keeping us in Afghanistan, Iraq, and/or Libya, just level an accusation of racism.

    Got it.

I hate to link to IGN, but here goes:

    GT5 damage explained (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/113/1137446p1.html)

Confusion seems to have stemmed from its differing implementation across the game's extensive garage, a point that Sony further clarified. "Standard models have minor deformation and scratches," said Sony, "Premium cars have greater visible level of damage, and Premium racing models have the highest level of damage."
    ----------
    Also from this (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/113/1136979p1.html) article:

"The first update, Yamauchi said, is coming this Saturday and will include restrictions for weight and power in online races.

Yamauchi went on to say that his team would be "upgrading every week, every month." "

I am new to this (and still waiting to buy my first Mac). BUT why all this talk about speed and not about screen size.

I will buy a new Mac as soon as the new models arrive, but I could probably do with a MacBook - but I just think 13" is to small (my eyes are getting old). Does anyone think a 15" MacBook will be out anytime soon - or do I just have to pay the extra price for the MacBook Pro

I used to think that until I replaced my 12" Thinkpad with a (budget) 15" Thinkpad. A 15" laptop is obviously a lot bigger, possibly heavier and definetly more difficult to carry around everywhere. I'll never buy a 15" laptop again.

It depends on how you will be using it, but one good option that works for me is to go for a 13" so its more portable then get a cheap 17"/19" TFT monitor for home and use it to extend the desktop. Forget Merom, I don't know how I survived for so long without an extended desktop.

An extra 17"s really does change your life!

    Another potential problem...

How many iPhone 4s is Radio Shack going to
have in stock on first day of sale?

It's not like they are the Apple or AT&T store.

If I could be assured of a phone on day one
from Radio Shack the deal would be a pretty
    good one.

All the radio shacks in Houston sold around 67k evos first day (or so I was told by a manager.)

If anyone is in Houston and shops the galleria they've started a preorder list at the location next to the sanrio store. The manager said they will be opening early on the 24th as well.

Freaking morons, if this article proves anything it's that Apple is NOT tracking you as a company. It doesn't log your coordinates and whereabouts and sends it back to Apple by using your Gmail account.

I'm fine with sending information to Apple if Apple could prove that it's encrypted anonymously. If that actually helps whatever i'm looking for near me load faster in maps, i'm all for it.

Oh Apple, I can't believe you still have hope in the dumb human race. Anya Major should have never thrown that hammer. Just let them be indoctrinated... More Apple products for me :)

Is this the same government that allowed warrantless wire tapping? The same government that used "color coding" to induce fear when there was nothing reported? The same federal government that allowed Halliburton no bid contracts in Iraq? Interesting how some cherry pick (this is not referring to you at all, just a general statement, not meant to be personal :) ), "government is bad, social healthcare is bad, but wait, federal lawsuits have merit, government is right".

A lot of federal lawsuits have no merit and there has been no ruling. Thus if a lawsuit is federal means all federal lawsuits are valid, doesn't make sense. Perhaps waiting this out for more information would be prudent instead of jumping down each others' throats.

I do not understand why every thread on MacRumors turns into a free-for-all. It should be called "MacFeuders"...

Maybe you'd prefer discourse where everyone agreed and had the same opinion as you. Maybe some white fluffy bunnies too? ;) I kid.

At the end of the day - an issue was indentified. Apple is responding. Arguing whether or not there is an issue is silly. Arguing whether or not Apple is responding is silly.

That's not addressed to you - but everyone at this point

As usual though they come with 50% of the necessary RAM , why Apple can't get this right I don't know.

Also I'm surprised the top model doesn't have Intel's fastest chip, surely Apple want to say they have the fastest possible computers?

Dual Optical drives is OK, good if you want to have a blu-ray drive as well I suppose...

You would think they would come out with the fastest chip...

I mean what seperates them from a Dell or HP workstation that is top of the line? OS X (yes), but to the ones on the fence that doesn't justify paying more for less.

You both ignored HOT DOGS! Sheesh, hot dogs rule. The only problem is kids under 6 choking on them unless you cut them right. But that will be fixed in the v3.0 hot dog, they will come pre-sliced.

    Hot dogs?

    Hot dogs?

Those are the Hyundai of...oh, wait, that analogy has been used already. Uhhhmmmm, Hot Dogs are the Yugo...oh, man, did it again.

OK, I've got it: Hot Dogs are the Hot Dogs of food.

Wait until the first revision comes up! as always, the desperates install the new OS that come full of bugs and then complains starts "I lost all my data".

    Just my 2cents.

Not to mention that this sort of upgrades just make you buying a new machine to run the system as it should.

Spot on. My mbp is my main works machine and my business depends totally on it. I'll wait for a few weeks even though I'm notoriously impatient with these things

Do you get a prize car for finishing a series in Aspec races with all gold? Like I just need to finish one more race, but I can't find a used car to get into it. It's the first series of races, beginner I am assuming.

There's allready en new beta of Adobe's Lightroom, Does that one run native under on the intel machines?
    From Adobe's site:

Will Lightroom run on Intel-based Macintoshes?

Yes. The Macintosh version of Adobe Lightroom beta 3 is a Universal application that will run natively both on PowerPC systems and on the new Intel-based Macintoshes.

Man, I don't know why people keep saying this. On OS X, *all software utilizes the extra cores*. The only way it wouldn't is if you have less than 8 processes running, which I guarantee you that you don't. (System alone requires 20-30 processes to run.)

Granted, 8 cores won't make Mail open up faster, but there are still plenty of ways to use those cores, and that's only going to increase as apps are re-written to be more heavily multi-threaded.

NOT TRUE....The Quad core G5 people are in an uproar because Logic Pro only uses 2 cores on the G5....they updated Logic Pro so it uses 4 cores, but the G5 Quad still only uses 2 cores....there are also photoshop actions that are NOT multi core aware so will only run on one core.....Hopefully 10.5 will make all this irrelevant.

Blu Ray is great for the wedding shooters and cutters.

Most corporate videos are being delivered by file or laid back to tape.
